In an article in the French version of Elle magazine called — yes, really — “Black Fashion Power,” writer Nathalie Dolivo discusses Michelle Obama’s style and the fact that she’s allowing black women to finally dress well, godddddd, what took so long? The article, which appears to have since been removed from the Elle France website (clicking on the link now reveals an “OUPS!” message — “OUPS,” indeed), says that our FLOTUS’s sense of style means that “chic has become a plausible option for a community so far pegged to its codes [of] streetwear.” Lord.

I can't believe Ms. Doliva said that, because some of her best friends are Black.(sarc)
And too, Thank God for Michelle for Michelle Obama. Were it not for her how could Black Women survive.
Remember the COH please.

My goodness can you believe if it were not for The FLOTUS of 2009 til present Black Women across America would never have known how to dress formally, or otherwise.
That type of observation begs for the initiator to be in a Strait Jacket.

I can only hope that her faux pas is due to translation issues.
I remember Bush saying something about the French not understanding what it is to be an entrepreneur!

Black people work very hard to differentiate themselves from white people. In fact "acting white" is a sin within the black community. The french fashion writer, Nathalie Dolivo simply described what she sees. No foul here. This is what black people want.
The real foul is the simple fact that once again, talking about black people to black people is not allowed by black people. The republican politicians are learning this now as well.

i guess that all the african american university educated professionals i know are anomalies! the problem with your post is that it is prejudiced by the media's narrow depiction of african americans. go to a church and see if so called "acting white" is a sin. go to a black chamber of commerce meeting or greeter and see if speaking "proper" (americanized) english is not the norm. go to a first fridays networking and socializing event. go on any college and university and talk to the african americans. go to the black colleges and universities.
talk to any one of the hundreds of thousands of african american greek letter organizations or the many other black organizations like jack and jill, the links or the other organizations.
you must get your information about african americans from "music" videos
your post is bs.

kappa_.....I believe you can tell by the comments why that button was pushed. And again it is bull@!$%#.

Well, I have no idea how black people dress in France so I can't comment on this aspect. However, my black friends are always dressed nicely even when they are wearing their "grubbies".

Im4me, your post was sarcasm, right!
I don't know what the lady was thinking when she wrote that, but I seem to see very well dressed black men and women everyday, and long before Michele Obama became First Lady.
''Acting white in the Black community is considered a sin''....That one takes the cake.
Your post is pure nonsense.

In no way do I mean anything derogatory about Michelle Obama, whom I admire and like very much! But Jackie Kennedy dressed well, too.
Was this a slam on African Americans, or Americans, in general? Gosh, I can't imagine! How rude!

Sorry, I came hoem in a brain freeze-- there are lots of VERY well-dressed African Americans. What about Dionne Warwick? What about Josephine Baker? For Pete's sake!

Dowser....I don't know how anyone can make such an uninformed statement.

So up til now black women in America have been dressing like bums? Sometimes some of the French can come off a little too snooty.

The caustic comments from everyone here are not unexpected. You prove my point. Blacks do not allow anyone to say anything about them. Good or bad. If a bad spin can be found, for some unknown reason, you will use it. The republicans are being schooled on this currently.
The truth is that Nathalie Dolivo did not say anything derogatory about Michelle Obama. She simply commented on her style. Don't attribute comments to her from the pinhead author from Wonkette. Those are Wonkette's nasty words (clearly looking for trouble) and not those of the French Elle writer.
Your uninformed comments:

such an uninformed statement

This remark is much more derogatory than what other's have written in my opinion, Im4Me.

it's my perception. Still, can you show any derogatory comments by the French Elle writer? That's what this is all about.
Since the article in question was taken down by Elle, I would think that even they felt it to inappropriate...

@ Everyone:
This is typical Im 4Me commentary. Albeit sad; it is not unusual nor is it atypical for a person such as he portrays himself to be.
Remember the COH please.
Notice how he reminds everyone to mind the COH? Of course because he knows fully well that what he stated is not only wrong and insulting, but also inflammatory and bigoted.
Again, for the record: Typical Im 4Me.

Jesus... This comment is completely ignorant and offensive. Flagged. Can someone please delete this garbage?

It is very offensive, Nightbreeeze and obviously ignorant. Maligning others especially when using a broad brush is despicable.

I only use the COH phrase when the seeder does.
Since the article in question was taken down by Elle, I would think that even they felt it to inappropriate...
I don't agree. They are simply responding to criticism from this country. The French don't see a problem. Remember this line in the article?
I’m sure that even educated French people wouldn’t see any offense in this.”
I'm going to give you Im4Me-name-callers another opportunity to make your point. If there is no response from you, I will take that as complete and total capitulation to me.
So once again, show the offensive quote about Ms. Obama. As the seeder, how about you first Easy?
Final result: There are no offensive quotes by the French Elle writer.
Final result: We wrote you off as a troll.

Lois, why would you call me a troll?
I challenge the over-the-top rhetoric and fake outrage on this seed. You are unable to support your own statements so you call me names.
